HOW TO
Transfer Files From PC To Amiga & Vice Versa
|
Introduction To Tutorial |
This tutorial will show you how to transfer files from your PC straight to your Amiga, handy if you only have an internet connection on your PC or if you want to put an ADF image back onto a real disk. I hope this guide proves useful and you find it easy to follow. |
Requirements |
You will need the following to follow this tutorial:
Once you have all of the above proceed to the guide. |
Guide |
You can easily transfer files between the PC and the Amiga by simply using the software that came with the machine! yep it's all included with Workbench.
Once you are in Workbench:
Now, type the following inside the AmigaShell (exclude the bullets):
Swap disks if you need to, this will allow your Amiga to read and write from any formatted 720KB PC disk. If you don't have any 720KB disks simply cover the non-tabbed side of the disk with sticky tape and format it as a 720KB disk - it works trust me!. As you will already be aware, 720KB's isn't quite enought for good storage, in this case you will need to use a program known as LHA to compress the files on the Amiga and uncompress them on the PC (more on this later). To copy files from the 720KB disk simply double click the relevant icon on your Workbench and drag the files accross to your Amiga drives. If you are copying files from your Amiga to the PC simply drag your Amiga files to the new 720KB PC disk. Now, if your Amiga files are over 720KB's in size follow these instructions to compress and uncompress the files:
This will create an archive named "ALE.LHA" containing a compressed version of the file named "NAMEOFORIGINAL", obviously you would substitute this with the name of the file you wish to compress. You can also replace ALE.LHA with any name you wish, this is just an example. To uncompress this file on the PC:
The file will now uncompress to your C: drive and you can use it on your PC. If you are trying to bring a file over 720KBs from the PC to the Amiga:
This will create an archive named "ALE.LHA" containing a compressed version of the file named "NAMEOFORIGINAL", obviously you would substitute this with the name of the file you wish to compress. You can also replace ALE.LHA with any name you wish, this is just an example. Transfer the file accross to your Amiga (using the method above) and type the following in the AmigaDOS Shell:
The file will now uncompress to your RAM: drive in which you can then copy to any other disk. Simple as that. NOTE: If you are copying an ADF file to be transferred back to a real Amiga floppy then you will also need to read this guide: |
